Back in the day when I was a newly qualified PT in LA Fitness in Manchester I was eager to train anyone that would train with me.

But…..there was this one guy in particular that used to drive me nuts. He was a young guy in his early 20’s and wanted to drop about 2 stone, but boy was he hard work.

He was a Tax inspector so you can imagine how much fun he was to work with but more than that he was probably the most negative person I've ever met. Everything was a drag to him and he would always be at least 20 minutes late for our session.

Our session was always at 8am on a Thursday morning. And even when I moved the session to 9am to give him extra time in bed he would still be late.
This guy used to bring me down to his level for the time we were working together with his whining and negativity and it would put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

Each week he would be later and later until he stopped coming for sessions altogether

I don’t know any better at the time but it was my own fault for training anyone that would train with me.

Marketing especially online should be as much about pushing people away from your services.

Here are 2 things I now do in my fitness that I have learned
My target market for my personal training is generally women 30-40 who want to lose weight. I don’t train bodybuilders, athletes, kids, or young guys looking to get ripped. It’s not my bag I wouldn’t enjoy it so I pass them on to someone else.

Sacking a client that you don’t enjoy working with can be one of the most liberating things you do in your fitness business. If it’s a negative person in your boot camp then it can bring up the mood of the group as a whole and attract more people that you want to work with.

Working out what clients you do want to work with and creating sales copy that sells your services to them is also one of the easiest ways to attract the clients you want to who will happily pay you what you’re worth.
