Ever been woken up by a huge Semtex bomb going off round the corner from your house?

I have, and I can still remember it like it was yesterday.   It was March 1990, I was only 14 and it was the height of “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland.

The IRA had driven a lorry full of explosives up to the front gates of the local police station and detonated it, leaving a huge crater and blown out windows for about a mile.

Luckily no one was killed that day, but it was just part and parcel of like growing up in what was to most people a war zone.

Thing is we didn't know any different? It was our normal.

Soldiers on the streets with rifles was normal.

Army check points were normal.

Bomb scares were an every day occurrence and if I'm being honest they happened so often that they were not even scary any more.

We didn't know what we didn't know.  For me I didn't get this until I moved to Britain, for the rest of the country it was when the peace process kicked in.

Getting into business as personal trainer is exactly the same.

You probably got into this gig because you love training and helping people.  Most personal trainers don't know business.  They don't know how to market them selves or why people really buy training.

The struggle is their normal, just like the weekly bomb scares was my normal….but it doesn't need to be like that.
